Core Strength for Runners

This installment of Core Strength for Runners is designed to help runners maintain a strong core through the summer months in order to enter the fall racing season in top form. In addition to basic core strength exercises, this course will include foam roller massage techniques during the cool-down portion of each class and additional cross body core exercises.
What is Core Strength for Runners?
Core Strength for Runners is an eight week program designed to help runners develop a strong core by focusing on recent research and core training exercises for endurance sports. Classes will discuss the physiology of a runner’s core and teach the exercises necessary to help participants build a core routine into their weekly training schedule. Each week’s class will include a dynamic stretching warm-up, 30 minute group core workout practicing the exercises covered that night and a foam roller/massage cool-down.
The course has been developed and will be taught by Bobby Mack, former All American Cross Country runner at NC State. Bobby has held the NC USATF titles in the 1 mile, 5K, 8K & 10K. Bobby competed at the 2012 Olympic Trials and represented Team USA in the 2013 World Cross Country Championships in Poland. Bobby runs professionally for Reebok and has won national USA Track & Field titles in the 8K and Cross Country. He is a USA Track and Field Level 1 certified coach.
Classes will be held each Monday night at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Capital RunWalk/Fitness Community Room located in Raleigh’s Cameron Village. The Program begins on Monday, June 10 and ends on Monday, July 29.
Each class will begin by discussing key muscle groups to be addressed in the workout along w/ a brief demonstration of the exercises to be taught. The remainder of the class will be a workout session utilizing the exercises covered. Major topics will include; General Strength, Medicine Ball Training, Muscle Imbalance, Circuit Training, Pedestal Training, Dynamic Flexibility, Foam Rolling. This core class will also feature cross body core exercises specifically designed for runners that aim to improve balance and muscular movement throughout the running stride.
Participant Limit: In order to ensure a quality program, each time slot will be limited to 15 participants.
